Orthodontics That Lets Your Personality Shine.
Color braces work exactly the same as traditional metal braces — the only difference is the tiny elastic ligatures (O-rings) that hold the archwire to each bracket. These small elastic ties come in a wide spectrum of colors, from classic silver and white to vivid blues, greens, pinks, purples, and everything in between.
The best part? They’re changed at every adjustment appointment, typically every 4–8 weeks. That means you’re never locked in — you can switch up your colors with the seasons, match your school or team colors, or try something new every single time. For kids and teens who might be nervous about getting braces, having a color to look forward to at each visit makes treatment something to be excited about instead of dreaded.
- Dozens of color options available — changed at every adjustment
- No additional cost over standard metal braces
- Popular with kids, teens, and color-loving adults
- Same corrective power as traditional braces
- Makes orthodontic treatment fun and personalized

How to Choose Your Perfect Color Combo.
There are no rules — only fun options. Our staff will lay out the full color wheel at your appointment and help you choose. Many patients plan their color choices before they even arrive!
Here are some of our patients’ favorite approaches for picking their braces colors at each adjustment:
- School or team colors: Show your pride in the stands or hallways
- Seasonal themes: Orange and black for October, red and green for December
- Favorite color: Keep it simple and go with what you love most
- Complement your skin tone: Darker colors often pop beautifully
- Holiday rotation: Plan your color schedule around the year's events
Color Braces FAQ.
No — colored elastic ligatures are included in your standard braces treatment at no extra charge. The cost of braces at Sonrisa Orthodontics is the same whether you choose classic silver ties, bright pink, or a full rainbow. Colors are simply part of the experience.
At every adjustment appointment, which typically occurs every 4–8 weeks. Your elastic ties are removed and replaced as part of every visit, so you get a fresh start with your color choice each time. You can stick with the same color you love or try something completely new — the choice is yours.
It depends on personal preference and skin tone, but a few tips tend to hold true. Darker shades — navy, deep purple, forest green, royal blue — tend to make teeth look whiter by contrast. White and yellow elastics can pick up stains from food and beverages and may make teeth appear more yellow. Clear elastics look subtle but also stain easily. When in doubt, pick a color that makes you happy — you’ll be wearing it for a few weeks!
