What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
If you are experiencing any of the following, contact our office immediately. Do not wait for a routine appointment — timely intervention can make the difference between saving and losing your implant or tooth.
Implant Pain or Mobility
An implant that is painful to touch, bite on, or that moves when pressed requires immediate evaluation — these are signs of active failure.
Broken Crown or Bridge
A fractured or dislodged crown or implant-supported bridge should be evaluated promptly to protect the underlying implant.
Acute Abscess or Infection
Facial swelling, fever, severe pain, or a visible abscess around an implant or tooth are serious — potentially life-threatening — and require urgent care.
Soft Tissue Trauma
Lacerations, avulsed teeth, or significant trauma to the mouth from an accident should be evaluated immediately by a dental specialist.
Lost Restoration
A crown, bridge, or abutment that has come off an implant exposes the implant to bacterial contamination and occlusal forces — have it evaluated promptly.
Ailing or Failing Implant
Progressive bone loss, persistent bleeding around an implant, or chronic implant discomfort are signs of peri-implantitis — early intervention is critical.

Know When to Call Our Office vs. 911.
Call our office first for: implant pain or mobility, broken or lost restorations, localized abscess without facial swelling, ailing implant symptoms, crown fractures, and post-surgical concerns following a procedure at our office.
Go to the emergency room if you experience: rapidly spreading facial swelling that is closing your eye or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, high fever with severe dental pain, or any trauma involving loss of consciousness or suspected jaw fracture.
When in doubt, call us first. Our team can help you assess the situation and direct you appropriately — even after hours, our voicemail message provides emergency contact guidance.
- Call us first for most dental emergencies
- Go to the ER for airway compromise or spreading infection
- After-hours emergency guidance available on our voicemail

Don't Wait. Time Matters in a Dental Emergency.
Dental emergencies rarely resolve on their own — they escalate. An ailing implant that could have been saved with early laser therapy and antibiotics may require removal if treatment is delayed. An abscess that could have been drained in the office may spread to facial spaces requiring hospitalization.
Our team prioritizes emergency patients. If you call our office describing an acute situation, we will do everything we can to get you seen the same day or within 24 hours. Your implant investment — and your health — is worth acting quickly.
- Same-day or next-day emergency appointments available
- Implant-specific emergency expertise on staff
- Early intervention dramatically improves outcomes
